ALL CONQUERING quartet We Banjo 3 make a rare hometown appearance at the end of this month when they play The Black Box for a 'Monroe's Live presents...' show on Friday May 26 at 8pm and it promises to be a storming gig.

The countdown is underway for the amazing Lisa Canny's show in Castlebar.  After a very successful recent Late Late Show appearance, Lisa is set for a Mayo homecoming show next Saturday, February 25 at The Garbos Venue in Castlebar.

Mayo native Lisa Canny began showing a big interest in music from a very young age, teaching herself tunes on the piano, and she will be bringing her talents to Castlebar on Saturday February 25 as part of the Finbar Hoban Presents series.  Having noted her musical ability Lisa’s national school principal, Sean Nestor, presented a then five-year-old Lisa with a small banjo and encouraged her to take classes. Bernie and Holly Geraghty taught Lisa for 10 years, passing on to her a great understanding, love, and passion for traditional Irish music.

When leading musician and Preda advocate Damien Dempsey proposed the idea of a nationwide song competition for primary and secondary school students not even he realised the passion for music and justice that exists among the youth of Ireland. When he heard the winning song by a young Galway songwriter, he was blown away by the sincerity and emotion of the writing.

IN 1961, a young singer-songwriter, originally from Seattle, but now part of the thriving folk community in New York's Greenwich Village, released her debut album, A Maid Of Constant Sorrow. The closing track was 'The Rising Of The Moon', an Irish ballad inspired by the 1798 Rebellion. The choice of that song was both a confirmation of deep Irish roots, and of a long association with Ireland that continues to this day.

Ryan Sheridan and his full band, who just released the number one selling album in Ireland titled Here and Now, comes to play the Garbo's venue in Castlebar next Friday night, September 18. But that’s not all, local acts The New Social and Michael Oliver Sheridan have also been added to the bill in what promises to be a great night of music for the county town this September.
